Resuscitation on the Field of Play

With many sporting events taking place across the Summer, I thought it was poignant to share with you the Best Practice Guidelines by the Resuscitation Council. Resuscitation on the Field of Play works to improve outcomes for out of hospital cardiac arrest, adapting specific advice to a range of organised sports events, including swimming (water based events), Horse Riding and endurance events (Running, Cycling). The guideline covers not only athletes, but volunteers, officials and other personnel. The full guidance can be found here

Key Points:

Any Athlete / Personnel who has a sudden collapse and is unresponsive - Sudden Cardiac Arrest should be presumed

In the early stages of cardiac arrest people often display seizure like movements, slow laboured breathing (agonal breathing), and may have their eyes open - this should not delay recognition of cardiac arrest and commencement of CPR

Better outcomes are known to be linked to early recognition of cardiac arrest, early and high quality CPR and early defibrillation

Why not book a CPR Training Session for your club or community!
